privacy policy

effective June 12, 2026

stitchnest is built around a simple promise: your knitting projects, patterns, and notes are yours, and they stay on your device. Here's what we do and do not collect.

what we collect

literally nothing

stitchnest does not collect, transmit, store, or process any personal information on any server we control. Everything you create in the app, including project names, pattern PDFs you upload, stitch and row counts, notes, drawings, and detected pattern metadata, is stored locally on your device using your browser or operating system's built-in storage (IndexedDB and localStorage). It does not leave your device unless you explicitly export a backup file via the iOS Files share sheet.

what we do not do

pattern PDFs you upload

Pattern PDFs you import into stitchnest are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to any server. If you uninstall the app, those PDFs are removed with it. You are responsible for respecting the copyright and license terms of any pattern you upload.

backups

When you use the Backup feature, stitchnest generates a JSON file containing your projects, counters, notes, drawings, and embedded PDF data. This file is saved via the iOS share sheet to a location of your choice (iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, email, AirDrop, etc.). We never see or have access to this file.

children's privacy

stitchnest does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app does not have user accounts or any data collection mechanism, so this is enforced by design.

changes to this policy

If we ever change how stitchnest handles data (for example, if a future version adds optional cloud sync), we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.

terms of service

effective June 12, 2026

By using stitchnest, you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.

the app

stitchnest is a free knitting and crochet companion app for personal, non-commercial use. It is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We do our best to keep it working, but we cannot guarantee it will be free of bugs or always available.

your content

Anything you create or upload in stitchnest, including pattern PDFs, notes, drawings, and project data, remains yours. We do not claim ownership of it. Because all of it stays on your device, we never have access to it.

patterns and copyright

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use any pattern you upload to stitchnest. Most patterns sold by independent designers include personal-use license terms, please respect them. Do not use stitchnest to redistribute patterns you do not own.

acceptable use

Do not use stitchnest to do anything illegal or to harm others. Otherwise, knit and crochet to your heart's content.

limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Acorn & Ivy LLC is not liable for any damages arising from your use of stitchnest, including lost project data. We strongly recommend using the Backup feature regularly. If you have a project you cannot afford to lose, export a backup.

changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. The effective date at the top of this section will show when. Continuing to use stitchnest after a change means you accept the new terms.

governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.

support

stitchnest is built and supported by a tiny indie studio (just one person, really). We read every email and try to reply within a few days. ♡

where do my projects go if I uninstall the app?

They are deleted along with the app. To preserve them, use Backup & Restore from the menu before you uninstall. The backup file can be saved to iCloud Drive or any other location in your Files app.

can I sync my projects between my phone and another device?

Not directly. There is no account or cloud sync (intentionally). You can export a backup file from one device and import it on another to move projects manually.

the pattern info detection got my yarn or needle size wrong.

Tap the field and edit it. Detection is a best-effort scan of your PDF and works on about 70 to 80 percent of patterns. Some pattern formats are tricky to parse automatically.

my drawings disappeared.

Drawings are saved per page, per project, on your device. If they vanished, it is most likely because you cleared browser data or reinstalled the app. Always export a backup if you have work you want to preserve.

will you add (feature)?

Maybe. Email us and tell us what you want. We prioritize based on what real knitters and crocheters ask for.
